Hey guys, im trying to create a conquest trail within a high fantasy world. 13th Age is a TRPG (tabletop Roleplaying Game) in a world of high fantasy and black powder technologies. And Dwarven engineering greatness. So... Im looking for new suggestions on pivotal plot points. Ive got several ideas bouncing on how to START the campaign. Like, Merchant guild puppeteered by a deathcult, that is also hiring the bandits to capture caravaners' to diminish business for the other guild. So they can kill them sacrificially. b) prisoner exchange; the heroes are hired as mercenaries to transfer a bound Chaos Mage. His eternal smile and wild eyes boring into their souls as they move on... But at night, the magically attuned hear his pleas for help in their dreams, as he explains the mark of chaos is controlling him... C) WANT AN ADVENTURE?! The Gnome, Tumbles, is on the loose again after his daring escape from the jails of Kharhan! Meet Neer-Do-Wells! Bash Kenders! And maybe save the day from this Hair-brained Gnomes' schemes! All in! "The Adventure of Great Inconvenience!" Protect your pockets, and remember! The only good Kender, is a dead one.

Are you planning to play it more than once or twice i.e. in chapters?
If you do it in chapters, you should start it small, with some small task, which then leads to bigger things.
Don't know if you've every played Chrono Trigger on SNES, but it starts simple: You go to a fair, you meet a girl. Your inventor friend has made a teleporting device she's showing off at the fair, so you go check it out. You go through the TP fine, but when the girl tries it, she vanishes. And that's when the plot starts, things lead to other bigger things and soon the whole world is at stake.

I guess Chapters. I was figuring a natural progression of levels, scope, and severity.
So another idea... Lich Slaves by one of the 4 Counts... Escape is necessary.
