It seems like the real point of the attacks is to turn the Western nations against the Muslims who don't support ISIS, they want to become the only place a Sunni Muslim can go. The fact Muslims and middle eastern nations are the ones that are suffering the most from ISIS and have been the ones on the front lines fighting them is going to be outright ignored by the media at large.
ISIS will probably get exactly what they want from this, it's easier to attack the people that live in your own lands who are similar to your enemies despite not being your enemy. It's happened in every single war ever, people of middle eastern descent will be hurt by this whether they're religious or not as well. Hate is a slippery slope and WILL lead to worse injustices.

Isis in a publication even stated that causing a rift is there goal.

I agree with PartyCommissar I think essentially ISIS sees this as a victory either way as now alot of muslims will be viewed with suspicion. It's also no surprise that the Wahabi element within Islam that is promoted directly by the Al Saud Family is responsible for this kind of savagery. I agree, it's easy to turn directly towards utter hatred. I see all religions as institutions of hatred but it seems to me "And this may be entirely due to it being the only thing shared on the news" that Islam seems to have a real stake in the terror department in this century. And yes we have to differentiate between the different forms of Islam, as certainly places like Iran, Kurdistan, Jordan are vehemently against ISIS. Still this attack really sickened me. You don't gain converts by slaughtering women and children, what a bunch of morons.

Exactly this, I am sure that ISIS knows that Western media only focuses on the savagery in the Middle East and thus uses it to their advantage to turn the Western World against ALL Islam, not just ISIS specifically.

Yeah, they even admitted it themselves here:
